Welcome
The Humane Society of Dover-Stewart County was
established on
October 28, 1993 as an all volunteer, non-profit organization and
currently consists of a small but dedicated group. Our programs include
guidance to the volunteers who foster homeless dogs; planning and
coordinating fund-raising and educational events; supporting adoption
events at the Clarksville Petsmart; investigating animal cruelty
complaints, including calls for assistance from the local police
officers.
The mission of the Humane Society of Dover-Stewart County (HSDSC) is to
rescue abused, abandoned and neglected animals and place them into good
homes. Our animals are checked by a veterinarian, vaccinated, spayed or
neutered and then placed in our adoption program and housed by a
volunteer foster parent. We are committed to long-term care and
placement of our animals and therefore we do not euthanize as a means
of population control or to make room for new animals.
All of our dogs are either in foster homes or being cared for at local
pet boarding facilities. Foster homes are preferred as they provide
valuable insight into the dog's personality to help us better match the
dog with a perfect home. There are many expenses incurred in caring for
these dogs (pull fees, boarding fees, vaccinations, spay/neuter,
vetting, dog food, transportation, advertising). We rely on adoption
fees, fundraisers, and donations to cover our expenses. It is not
uncommon for a dog's adoption fee to be less than the expenses incurred
while caring for the dog. Any donations received are used to cover
expenses incurred while caring for and rehoming the dogs. We have no
paid staff. Our rescue does not believe in breed discrimination and
welcome all breeds of dogs. Additionally we do not discriminate based
on the age or medical condition of the dog. The dogs we have available
are all wonderful, loving dogs who deserve a second chance at life and
love.
We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization financing our programs through adoption fees, fund raisers and outright donations. We welcome new members and if you would like to help out in any way please contact us.

Adopt Me...
PetSmart stores do not sell dogs or cats, but instead allow animal shelters and rescue agencies to use their space to get animals adopted. You will find our volunteers at the Clarksville PetSmart - 2784 Wilma Rudolph Blvd, (931) 906-8069 - with available cats and dogs almost every weekend. A potential adopter should expect to spend some time with the animal in whom they are interested, then complete an adoption application with the assistance of a HSDSC volunteer.
